Dr. Boma Obi hails from Bonny having been born to the family of Late Rtd. Major Rowland Pelebo Jamaica and late Madam Grace Nne Jamaica of Allison’s Major house in Bonny Kingdom on 6th March, 1954.

She attended the Holy Child Convent Primary School Abiakpor in Akwa Ibom State and the Holy Rosary Secondary School Port Harcourt, Rivers State where she obtained her West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1971.

Dr Boma Obi later proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt and she graduated there with honours in English Literature in 1982.  As an Alumnus of the University of Ibadan she holds a Master degree (MLS) in Library and Information Science (1986).  She also obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Library and Information Science from University of Uyo (2005).

Dr Boma Obi has been a practising Librarian and a Lecturer since 1987.  By 2003 she was chartered in her profession.  In 2006 she was assessed and appointed Deputy College Librarian.  She became the Acting University Librarian in 2012, and on 28th September, 2017 was interviewed and confirmed as substantive University Librarian.

Dr Boma Obi is widely published.  She has publications both in national and international materials.

She belongs to a number of professional societies which include the Nigerian Library Association where she served as a National Council Member for two tenure, the Academic and Research Libraries and the Association of Women Librarians in Nigeria.  At present she is a member of the Association of University Librarians in Nigeria Universities (AULNU) among others.  She has obtained many awards religious and secular, and is also an UN Ambassador of Peace.

She is married with children.  Dr Boma Obi loves good movies and classical music, she is a Vincentian
